Journey Overview: See some of Morocco’s most spectacular places in a short time on this private 2 days desert tour from Ouarzazate to Fes via Merzouga. Over 2 days and 1 night, you’ll start with a visit to the Todra Gorges before heading to the Sahara desert of Merzouga, where you’ll ride a camel into the dunes, watch a magical sunset and sunrise, and spend the night at a luxury desert camp. On the second day, you’ll visit the traditional market of Rissani and Erfoud, the town of fossils, then travel north through Ifrane, the “Switzerland of Morocco,” and the cedar forest that is home to the Barbary macaques. The tour starts at your accommodation or the airport in Ouarzazate and ends in Fes.
Tour Highlights:
We pick you up early in the morning from your accommodation or the airport in Ouarzazate and drive to the Todra Valley, where the Todra River has carved a dramatic canyon with high red cliffs through the mountains. Take your time to wander through the gorge and enjoy the landscape. We then continue through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinejdad, with free time for lunch along the way. In the afternoon, we reach the Sahara desert of Merzouga, where you’ll swap the car for a camel and ride across the dunes. We’ll stop on a high dune so you can watch the magical sunset before continuing to the luxury desert camp. In the evening, enjoy Berber drumming and dancing around the campfire beneath a vast, starry sky, followed by dinner and a night at the camp.
On the last day of your tour, wake up early to watch a beautiful sunrise in the heart of the desert. After breakfast, return by camel to Merzouga, where your driver will be waiting. We leave the desert for Rissani, the historic capital of Tafilalet and still an important trading town, with a large, lively souk on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. After a walk through the market, we continue to Erfoud to visit a fossil marble workshop. From there, we follow the Ziz River and stop for a panoramic view over the Ziz Valley, then enjoy free time for lunch in Midelt. Next, we stop in the cedar forest, home to the Barbary macaques, where you can wander among the trees and watch the monkeys up close. We then visit Ifrane, famous for its cool climate, snow and alpine-style houses, which is why it’s known as the “Switzerland of Morocco.” Your 2 days desert tour from Ouarzazate to Fes via Merzouga ends with a drop-off at the airport or your accommodation in Fes.
