5 days off-road desert tour from Fes to Marrakech – Detailed Itinerary:

Day 1: Fes → Ifrane → Ziz Valley → Merzouga Desert

Your desert adventure begins with a pick-up from your hotel or riad in Fes. On the way south, we stop at some memorable places, including the charming town of Ifrane, the peaceful cedar forest near Azrou, where you may see Barbary monkeys, and the beautiful Ziz Valley. We reach Merzouga in the afternoon, where you’ll set off on a camel ride across the dunes and watch a stunning sunset from the top of a high dune. At the luxury camp, you’ll be welcomed with a glass of tea before settling into your private tent. After a delicious dinner, enjoy the evening around the campfire with drumming and traditional Berber songs beneath a sky full of stars.

Day 2: Merzouga Desert Discovery

Early risers can start the day with a breathtaking sunrise. After breakfast, get ready for an adventurous day in the Merzouga desert. We begin in Khamlia, a charming village known for its Gnawa music, then head off-road to M’Fis, an abandoned village famous for its galena mines, a mineral used in cosmetics. Next, you’ll experience nomadic life firsthand with a visit to a family living near the Erg Chebbi dunes, who will welcome you with traditional Berber hospitality and share how they live. After lunch, we take you to a charming riad with lovely views of the golden Erg Chebbi dunes. Relax or enjoy a swim, then take an easy walk out to the dunes to watch another beautiful sunset. If you’d like to spend a second night at the desert camp instead, just let us know when you book.

Day 3: Merzouga Desert → Rissani → Todra Gorge → Dades Valley

After breakfast at your riad in Merzouga, we set off for the Dades Valley. Along the way, we stop at several interesting places, including Rissani, the Tinghir oasis and the Todra Canyon and Gorge. If it’s market day in Rissani (Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday), you can explore its traditional souk, a great place to see local crafts, spices and tasty street food. There will be plenty of stops for photos and to learn about local traditions. At the Todra Canyon, take a relaxed walk to admire its towering cliffs. We arrive in the Dades Valley later in the day, where you’ll check into your hotel for dinner and the night.

Day 4: Dades Valley → Bou Tharar → Kelaat M’Gouna → Skoura → Ouarzazate

After breakfast at your hotel, you can take an easy walk through the Dades Valley or join a guided hike in the Monkey Fingers Canyon, with its unusual rock formations and amazing views. Leaving the valley, we follow an adventurous off-road route toward Kelaat M’Gouna, stopping whenever you like. Near Bou Tharar, we visit a nomadic Berber family living in a mountain cave, where you’ll share a warm glass of tea and see their way of life firsthand. We then continue to Kelaat M’Gouna, famous for its Rose Valley; in spring, you can walk among the roses in full bloom. Next comes Skoura, a stunning oasis of vast palm groves that was once an important stop for camel caravans traveling between the Mediterranean and sub-Saharan Africa. Here you’ll explore the historic Amridil Kasbah, which offers a glimpse of life more than 300 years ago. Afterward, we take you to your hotel in Ouarzazate for a relaxing evening, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Ouarzazate → Ait Ben Haddou → High Atlas Mountains → Telouet Kasbah → Marrakech

After breakfast at your hotel, we explore Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa” and the gateway to the desert, with visits to the Taourirt Kasbah and Atlas Studios to learn about the city’s cultural and film history. We then drive to Ait Ben Haddou, home to an iconic kasbah that’s a fine example of traditional Moroccan architecture. This historic site has appeared in popular films and series such as The Mummy, Gladiator and Game of Thrones. After exploring and stopping for lunch, we cross the majestic High Atlas Mountains toward Marrakech, pausing at scenic viewpoints and visiting the historic Telouet Kasbah, once a powerful stronghold of the El Glaoui family, also known as the Palace of Glaoui. We arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon and drop you off at your accommodation, bringing your 5 days off-road desert tour from Fes to Marrakech to an end.
